PROJECT DESCRIPTION

"View Through My Window" - an encaustic project.
Application/Agreement
Goal/Objective:
“View Through My Window” is a collaborative work that is intended for Artists to share a project with other Artists - opening up a channel of communication. Each Artist will create their own individual painting, which will be unified in physical space and context with their fellow Artists. Together, we will be creating a work of art that is greater in sum than its individual parts.

Theme:   "View Through My  Window"
The theme is about us sharing what we see, or what we envision in our minds-eye when we think of Whidbey

Project Design & Physical Description:

Frame:  The design is based upon using an old-beat up window frame (23-1/2"h x 40"w) which consists of (8) window panes to house the painted panels. Each pane opening is approximately 9-1/4" h x 8-3/16”w.. The window frame backing is magnetic receptive metal.

Each individual panel will include a painting, that when assembled in the window frame, the frame will contain a patchwork of individual styles. The fact that each Artist will be working on their own panel in a style of their own choosing will create visual interest and variety to the completed whole, while still being united by a predetermined color pallet.

Panels:  Each panel's back has been prepared with acrylic black paint for added strength and support.  Panels have pre-drilled holes for installing magnets that will serve as the attachment.    Anne will install the magnets when she receives the completed panels.

A client will be able to "select" their choice of 8 panels for the Window Frame.  All panel prices are consistent and must be agreed upon by all Artists.
The Window Frame with 8 panels must be sold prior to individual panels.

Instructions for Painting:

The panels have been ordered and prepared by Anne.  Each panel is 9-1/4”h x 8-3/16”d maple panel glued to 8-1/2” x 7-1/2” x 3/16”d un-cradled mdf/maple panel, prepared by Rodney Thompson.
For a proper fit, you must keep the sides and the back of the panels clear of wax.  This can best done by masking the edges prior to beginning your painting.  Please try to keep the depth of your panel no more than 1/4" (definitely on the perimeter edge) so it can fit easily into the window pane.
The primary medium shall be encaustic.  The Artist must adhere to the designated color palette, but has freedom to paint with all or any of the colors or their mixed derivatives.  In addition, the Artist is not limited to encaustic paint but may include other mediums, transfers, collage materials, etc., as long as they are compatible with the designated warm color palette.  And, keep in mind, that acrylic is not an appropriate medium to combine with encaustic.
Designated Color Pallet:
(Note"  "red" has not been included, as we are particularly interested in keeping the palette unique.)
-  Ultramarine Blue
-  Payne's Grey
-  Graphite Grey
-  German Silver
-  Titanium White
-  Mars Yellow
-  Raw Umber
-  Iridescent Pearl, or swap out for a color of your own choice

Additional Information and opportunity:

Each Artist will work on one panel of the grid, using the predetermined color palette. Many of the Artists have agreed to paint a second panel.   (Cost for your second panel will be based on the COG.)

The completed Window Frame will be displayed with 8 painted panels (selected by the gallery), positioned in the window panes.  All additional panels will also be displayed.  The client, who purchases the Window Frame, may swap out and select the panels they want.

What must an Artist do to participate?

The Artist must agree to all the painting instructions.   Including:  adhering to the predetermined colors; maintaining that encaustic is the primary medium; keeping the panels' sides and back clean.  Note (worth repeating): the perimeter sides should be no thicker than ¼".

The Artist must pay for their panel at the time they receive it.  The Artist must sign the Agreement at the end of this proposal and email it to:  windowpane@fishpuppy, prior to receiving their panel.

The Artist must submit an updated bio/resume and small statement about their work (50-75 words) at the time they receive their panel.  This should be sent electronically to windowpane@fishpuppy.com and a followup confirmation email will be emailed to you.

The Artist must keep the completion schedule (tbd).  If not, other arrangements must be made.  If for some reason, you are unable to complete the panel or wish to terminate the project, notify Anne asap.

An Artist who has existing arrangements or an exclusivity agreement, with a gallery on the Island, must assure the project planners that their panel can be displayed in ANY Island gallery.

The Artist must agree that when the Window Frame is sold with 8 painted panels, the gallery will have the option to write one check, payable to Anne.   Anne will then disburse the funds to the individual Artists.

Upon completion of your panel, you must photograph it,  maintaining the following standards and email the jpeg to:  windowpane@fishpuppy.com
            Jpeg format:
            - Save at 72 dpi
            - Maximum image size of 1200px on the longest side
            - Maximum file size: 2MG
            - (Or 300 DPI, approx. 6"x6")
- Label Jpeg with your name and title of work, if   you have   a title (NAME_  TITLE of ART)

Pricing:

As stated, price of the panels must be consistent and agreed upon by all the Artists.

Total price for the Window Frame, including 8 panels will be:  $1400.  (Additional individual panels will be priced at $175/each.)

Profits for the sale of the individual panels, minus gallery charges (usually 50%) and taxes, will be awarded to the Artist.

Unsold paintings will be returned to the Artist.   Shipping costs, if incurred, will be charged back to the Artist.

Artists Expenses:

- prepared Window Frame, including magnetic receptive backing:  $0.00
- prepared panel (back painted and pre-drilled holes for the magnets):  $0.00
- panel:   $10.75
- magnets/screws:   $7.00
-       $17.75/for 1st panel
-     $19.00/ for 2nd panel
-       $36.75
There are possibly other unknown, miscellaneous expenses that may also be incurred.  In particular, an easy, proper solution for hanging the window frame needs to be manufactured. And, we need to find a simple solution for hanging the additional panels - being as they are magnetic, without hangers.  (Note:  there are several solutions, and cost to the Artist should be minimal but undetermined at this time.)
